Mobile Internet in Bali. Mobile communications and Internet in Bali. Starter packages. Types of Telkosel SIM cards

What cellular operators exist in Bali and what SIM card to buy is of interest to any person who has decided to travel to Indonesia.

For the modern world, having the ability to communicate (without depending on distance) has long been a proven and necessary thing. The main thing is to know the rules and mobile communication options that exist in a particular location.

mobile connection

Living without a phone, especially in a foreign country, is now impossible. Most often, for its normal functioning, the option of connecting to roaming services is used. This is done before departure using your existing SIM card. The main thing is to remember that a positive balance, taking into account the cost of a call home, is up to 100 rubles. for a minute conversation, there should always be.

The second option (popular among tourists) is to purchase a local SIM card. It is not difficult to purchase a SIM card here. No passport or other document is required. Almost every store has special departments for selling them, a network of cellular communication stores, and ordinary local merchants. You need to know that the cost of purchasing at the airport will be much higher (sometimes 10 times). The average price of a SIM card is 15,000 Indonesian rupees ($1.5). It must be activated in your presence immediately after purchase. Top up your account in mobile phone stores, shops, kiosks. They say the word “PULSA” and after answering “yes” they start depositing money. or with a group of friends, it is recommended to purchase a SIM card from the same operators, of which there are a lot on the island. Popular cellular operators in Bali are PT Smart Telecom and Telkomsel (convenient Simpati tariff).

Call rules:

  1. The cost of domestic calls within Indonesia is determined from 1 to 2 thousand rupees (3.6 rubles per minute). At night the call costs significantly less.
  2. A minute of conversation with Moscow and St. Petersburg costs 25 rubles. An SMS message will cost 20 rubles. The cheapest option for calls to Moscow is made from Wartel Telecom points (after 23:00 call prices are significantly reduced). To talk from a pay phone, you need to purchase (at a supermarket, post office, newsstand) a telephone card.
  3. A little advice. When you call Russia using Telkomsel, you first need to dial one of the codes (01-01-177 or 01-019-7), then the city code (sometimes the operator), and the subscriber number. If, for example, the subscriber has the number +7 903 111 11 11. Instead of the “plus”, you need to dial a code. It turns out 01017 7 903 111 11 11 (two sevens are next to each other). This clever combination reduces the cost of talking to Russia. It is equal to 7.5 rubles. in a minute. The XL Axiata card code is a set of numbers 01000.
  4. The country code in the International system is +62. Bali's code is digit order 361. They are dialed when calling the island from any other country. For internal calls, “0” is dialed instead of +62.
  5. Emergency phone numbers: medical assistance 118, police 110, fire service 113, information 108.
  6. To check your balance, dial *888# (TELKOMSEL), *123# (XL).
  7. There are universal SIM cards for inexpensive communication without a monthly fee and limiting the life of the card. They are considered convenient for frequent trips to the island. An example is the “Whole World” international SIM card, covering over 100 countries. Its cost is 1000 rubles.

Internet services have recently appeared on the island. The quality of communication in each area is different and is determined by the capabilities of the provider and its coverage map. Having chosen a place to live, you need to find out in detail all the information about Internet speed and payment rates for it. In general, the service is not expensive and costs $5 for 2-5 gigabytes. For stays of up to a month, a monthly tariff for a SIM card is most often used, costing from 20,000 to 50,000 rupees ($2-4). Payment for the Internet package is 60,000 rupees ($5) for 30 days. It is better to buy a package for 2 GB by paying 100,000 rupees. Part of the traffic will be used for calls and SMS messages. This helps to avoid the unpleasant fact when, after the end of the money, debits begin at other, more expensive rates.

Many operators can connect several Internet options with different quotas at once. Telkomsel sells 1GB Internet 4G with 4G/LTE + 1.3Gb Data Local options for 50,000 rupees. In Bukit + 200Mb Flash (3G). If the phone catches 4G, the first quota is spent, if edge/3G works, then the last quota is used. Sometimes it’s difficult to understand everything at once, so it is recommended to often check to see if there is still balance left for the Internet or to pay more. The availability of the Internet and its speed are checked when choosing a place of residence.

There are about 50 Wi-Fi hotspots in Bali. If you have a laptop, it is easy to connect and use in cafes, hotels, and restaurants. In any region covered by cellular communications (EGDE/3G), you can use a modem purchased here. A SIM card from a local operator will allow you to work with the Internet for the required time.

Unlimited Internet using a 3G modem is provided by several mobile operators. Smart and Broadband are considered the most popular. The average cost of their services is $33 per month.

The main ways to access the Internet in Bali are:

  1. Via ADSL telephone cable.
  2. Using fiber optics. This applies to densely populated areas of Bali such as Kuta and Seminyak. Connection is expensive.
  3. Through a radio channel. A common method is by installing an antenna. Cable network connections are currently used the least on the island.

To choose a method for connecting to the Internet, it is useful to compare information about several providers:

  1. Offer from a Russian-speaking company with high wireless tariffs. Provides stable Internet access during long periods of work. Very good service by company operators.
  2. Jetcoms is a wireless operator. The contract lasts for one and a half years. The price of a megabit is 1.25 million rupees.
  3. Costs about 1 million. for 2 megabits, 2.2 million for 5 megabits. There are many positive reviews about the operator's work.
  4. Telkom Speedy. Cable connection using ADSL technology. The average cost is $180 for 3Mb/sec.
  5. XL (GSM).

Modern communication options operating in Indonesia can be studied in detail on numerous provider websites. You won’t be bored here without communicating with your family. Those wishing to spend a long time on the island, such as winter, are provided with excellent accommodation.

In general, mobile communications are quite well developed in Indonesia, especially in popular tourist destinations and big cities.

You can call the Russian Federation from Bali from a Telkomsel mobile number by first dialing the code 01017, then the Russian number without 8. For example, if you need to call the Russian number 8999**1212, you will need to dial 01017 999**1212. Then the price of a minute of conversation will be no more than 0.2 dollars, and an SMS - about 0.05 dollars.

A call to an Indonesian number from an Indonesian SIM card costs between 5 and 10 cents. per minute, billing is per second. The cost of the first minute is higher than each subsequent one. Tariffs are the same throughout Indonesia and there is no roaming between regions. At the same time, from 11 p.m. to 6 p.m., call prices are lower than during the day.

To call from Russia or another country to an Indonesian mobile number, you need to dial +62 (Indonesia code) at the very beginning.

Calls from Bali

To call home in the Russian Federation or another country of the former USSR from an Indonesian number at a minimal price, you can use IP telephony. Each mobile operator in Indonesia has its own code. If the call is made from a Telkomsel SIM card, you should dial 01017 before the international code of your country. When calling from an Axiata SIM card, you need to dial the code 01000. For example, when calling a Russian number, you will need approximately the following set of numbers: 01000-7-XXX-XXX -XX-XX. The conversation in this case will not cost much - approximately 2,500 Indonesian rupees (about 0.02 dollars) for 1 minute. An SMS in the Russian Federation will cost about 700 Indonesian rupees (approximately 0.05 dollars).

To call home from Bali to a landline number, you will need to dial 001, then enter the country code, area code and number.

Calls home are the cheapest at Wartel Telecom points, where rates are reduced after 11 p.m. To call from a pay phone, you need to purchase an appropriate calling card, which is sold in supermarkets, Indonesian post offices and newspaper stands.

Calls to Bali from other countries

To call a Balinese number from a landline in another country, first dial 8, then 10, then 62 (Indonesia code), then 361 (Bali code), then the subscriber's number.

To call from a mobile in another country to a mobile number in Bali, you will need to dial +62 (Indonesia code), then the operator code and the subscriber number.

Calls within Indonesia

When calling from a mobile phone in Indonesia to another number in that country, a minute will cost around IDR 1,500. At night, calls are much cheaper: 1 minute costs almost half as much, and SMS is only about 150 Indonesian rupees.

To call from one Indonesian mobile number to another, you must first dial the Indonesia code +62, then the operator code and subscriber number. If the call is made to a number belonging to the same Indonesian mobile operator as your number, instead of +62 you need to dial zero.

Where to buy a SIM card in Bali

SIM cards in Bali are sold in many places: mobile phone stores, supermarkets, and the airport. There are a lot of sales points in tourist areas, you can find them without any problems. Except in critical situations, you should not rush to purchase a SIM card at the airport, as it will be too expensive. It will cost less in the shopping center.

Internet in Bali

It is not recommended to use a SIM card from a non-Indonesian mobile operator for mobile Internet in Indonesia, since such Internet will be too expensive. The costs can be significant. It is possible to connect to roaming with your home operator so as not to go broke to such an extent, but it will still be much more expensive than when using a special tourist or Indonesian SIM card.

Although in most of the Southeast Asian countries the Internet is now developed almost flawlessly and every hotel has Wi-Fi, in Indonesia the situation is less rosy. Wi-Fi in this country is not available in every hotel, even in such popular tourist regions as Bali. Therefore, you should carefully select your hotel. However, if only mobile Internet is enough for you, you can limit yourself to purchasing a SIM card with mobile traffic. Wi-Fi is also available in some (but also not all) restaurants, cafes, and large shopping centers. There are also internet cafes in Bali.

However, in terms of mobile Internet development, Indonesia is inferior to Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. His speed here is most often not high enough. When buying an Indonesian SIM card for Internet access, you should not try to buy a card that supposedly has high speed, since in reality it will still be low.

To connect to the mobile Internet, you should buy a SIM card from one of the main operators in Indonesia - Telkomsel, Axiata or Indosat.

Internet in Bali for tourists

The most economical option is to use mobile Internet packages. Local operators offer many packages with different terms and volumes. One of the most popular packages among tourists is the Telkomsel SimPATI package. SimPATI package rates are as follows:

  • 5 GB for 3 days - 28,000 Indonesian Rupiah - IDR;
  • 5 GB for 7 days – 36,000 IDR
  • 10 GB for 7 days – 45,000 IDR
  • 6 GB for 30 days – 60,000 IDR
  • Cable Internet in Bali

Telkom Speedy in Bali provides cable connections based on ADSL technology. The disadvantage is the use of telephone cables, which in Bali have not been updated for a very long time, so they have low bandwidth and often break. In most cases, if you need more or less high-quality Internet, then mobile is often a better option than cable. But of course it’s better to check on the spot.

Mobile communications on the island are not at all expensive and at the same time very accessible.

We, in turn, strongly advise you to purchase a local SIM card, right here upon arrival. Moreover, this is absolutely not difficult to do: SIM cards are sold in almost any store, mobile phone store, and even at the airport by good-natured local merchants. We still recommend refraining from the last purchase option if you don’t want to overpay by 5–10 times.

The cost of a SIM card ranges from IDR 5,000 to IDR 15,000 on average. (from about 0.5 - 1.5 $). Caring sellers activate the card right there on the spot. If for some reason they did not do this, we advise you to ask them to activate the SIM card in front of you. Otherwise, difficulties may arise later when trying to activate it yourself. If you speak the local language well, then it is quite possible that you will be able to complete this procedure yourself and without problems.

There is already some amount in the account. As a rule, it may not be enough for calls home. You can top up your balance right on the spot.

If you are traveling with a family or a group, we recommend purchasing SIM cards from the same operator.

There are a great variety of mobile operators. The most popular are Telkomsel (Simpati tariff) and XL Axiata Tbk, PT Smart Telecom.

How to call:

The international dialing code for Indonesia is +62.

For example, if you need to call Bali from abroad, then the number may look something like this +62 821 11 11 11 11. Moreover, if you make a call within the network, then +62 can be safely replaced with “0”. And at the same time the phone number now looks like this: 0821 11 11 11 11

A little about tariffs and costs:

Domestic calls within the country will cost you 1000–2000 Indonesian rupees (3–6 rubles) per minute. Calling at night is even more profitable - the cost of a minute of conversation is reduced by almost half. And SMS is even cheaper - 150 rupees (50 kopecks)

Calls to Russia:

A minute of conversation, for example, with Moscow or St. Petersburg will cost you about 25 rubles, and an SMS message will cost you 18–20 rubles. However, (dammit!) there is a little trick: if you call Russia from Telkomsel, first dial the code “01-01-177” or “01-019-7”, then the city code or operator code, then the subscriber number . For example, you need to call the number +7 903 111 11 11, instead of a plus you dial the code, the result will be 01017 7 903 111 11 11 (two sevens next to each other). This smart combination reduces the cost of a minute of conversation with Russia to 7.5 rubles.

(For XL Axiata card holders, code 01000.)

You can check your balance by dialing *888# (for TELKOMSEL) and *123# (for XL)
Check how much you spent on your last call or SMS *887# (for TELKOMSEL)

Refill:

You can top up your account not only in mobile phone stores, but also in shops and kiosks. It is enough to say the incantatory “PULSA?”, and if the answer is affirmative, you can safely proceed to payment.

👁 Do we book the hotel through booking as always? Booking is not the only thing in the world that exists (🙈 for a huge percentage from hotels - we pay!) I have been practicing for a long time

At the moment, on the island of Bali in Indonesia there are no problems with calling family and friends in Russia. Direct calls can be made directly from the hotel or public telephone, which are located on almost every corner in every popular resort.

The cheapest way to call Russia is from Wartel Telecom points, where prices are reduced after 23:00. To make a call from a telephone booth, you will need to buy a calling card, which can be purchased from supermarkets, post offices and newsagents.

Mobile communications in Bali

Roaming provided by Russian mobile operators is expensive, so we will not consider it here.

There are several mobile operators operating on the island of Bali, the most popular of which are TELKOMSEL and XL Axiata. Their prices are normal and the reception is good. In order to buy a local SIM card, no documents are required. Prices for an Indonesian SIM card are usually around $15-$30, but in some tourist areas of the island they can charge much more. Ask to activate the card immediately upon purchase. You can top up your balance at the same place where SIM cards are sold.

You can check your balance with the TELKOMSEL mobile operator by dialing *888#, and with XL Axiata by dialing *123#.

Calls within the country between subscribers of the same mobile operator are very cheap.

How to call Bali?

Modern man cannot be separated from the Internet. And this is not bad, this is the normal development of civilization. There are a lot of opportunities on the global network, both during and after riding the waves, it is important to have access to resources at hand. In Bali, the IT sector is developing gradually and a leap in Internet coverage has been noted in recent years. A tourist today here receives a full range of excellent Internet conditions. Let's take a closer look.

Support options

The situation has objectively improved, but problems may still arise with the speed and general availability of the network. To gain access to the network there are several possible options:

  1. 3G Internet.
  2. ADSL access.
  3. Fiber optic networks.
  4. Wi-Fi.

Each of these types has its own characteristics and functionality. Depending on your personal expectations and needs, you can choose the optimal solution. We’ll tell you what to pay attention to and how to choose the right conditions.

ADSL access

Many houses on the island do not have internet, so don't expect to have constant access at your fingertips. In the ADSL industry in Bali, the monopoly is offered by Telekom Speedy. A landline telephone is required to connect. Price 1 Mbit = $34

Fiber Optic Networks

The maximum speed is provided with this access. The cost of services starts from $100 and is determined by the area of your residence.

Wireless Internet coverage is excellent in all cafes and places where tourists gather. The speed is low, but quite accessible for messengers or working with cards. The cost is favorable and this option allows you to significantly save on Internet services during your trip.

In Bali, during your holiday you can try several options for accessing the network. If you are visiting for a short time, it is best to purchase a Telkomsel SIM card and call it a day. You pay only 4 dollars and use pretty good internet.

It's unlikely that you want to bother with home Internet, so mobile Internet will be your best choice.

Good speed and constantly developing coverage. In Bali today there are 4 key operators XL, Smart, Telkomsel, Tri. To increase the network speed, we recommend purchasing a USB modem, which costs about $20. An alternative option is to take the modem with you after flashing it first. The cost of service on the island is reasonable and amounts to $10-15 per month. But there is a peculiarity: an unlimited network with good and constant access is difficult to find.

Telkomsel offers a SIM card for $2 and an additional 4 GB package, for which you will have to pay about $6. For tourists, the optimal solution is a 1-month package, which is more profitable than purchasing a two-week option. But be prepared for the fact that after going through the allocated amount of traffic, the speed will drop significantly.

XL is noticeably cheaper, but the coverage area is significantly inferior. The same applies to Tri, the operator offers the fastest traffic on the island, but the coverage leaves much to be desired. Smart is the most affordable option in Bali. It offers unlimited access throughout the territory via modem or phone. The cost is affordable, the speed is high, but on weekends and in the evening there may be connection failures and a drop in speed.

Tips: Keep an eye on traffic; after going beyond the included package, the cost increases sharply. Be sure to study the tariff; often the Internet in the evening and at night can be very limited.

Don’t count on a comfortable unlimited rate on the island; there are practically no such tariffs!

Don't overpay! In order to have always working and functional Internet, it is enough to spend 10-15 dollars. You can get into a much larger amount, so do not rush to choose an operator.
