Looking at this watch, you understand that the universe is infinite, there is vanity and decay all around, there is nowhere to rush and there is no need to rush. Design: Van Cleef & Arpels.

German "ball" watches Abacus from Erich Lacher Watch Factory designed for those with a steady hand. Numbers, arrows and other familiar time indicators are replaced by a ball that rolls freely inside the dial. To find out the hour and minute, you need to bend your arm, giving it a horizontal position. At this moment, the built-in magnet attracts the ball to the notch corresponding to the current time on a traditional dial.

Having a personal “Yorick” on your hand is tempting and stylish. You can slowly philosophize while watching the gears spin in his eye sockets. Watch design: Fiona Kruger.

OZO Watch – a minimalist watch from a New York designer Anton Ripponin. Being a concept, the gadget was awarded at the Red Dot Award idea competition. Hours and minutes are “divided” into two small dials inside the main one. The hourglass icon located in the middle is responsible for “reading” the data. You can purchase them in American online stores at prices starting from $200.

Dripping wristwatch named after Salvador Dali

The idea of creating a watch that replicates the famous “drip” clock of the great Salvador Dali is far from new. Previously we talked about. However, in any case, they cannot be denied originality.

Minimalistic watch with a digital-free dial from Mr. Jones Not only will they help you not get lost in time and remind you of your vacation, but they will also tell you what time it is when traveling abroad. Wristwatch for a math lover

To find out the time using this clock, you need to have a good understanding of mathematics. Perelman definitely approves!

Wrist watch Wingt Mille Watch clearly demonstrate what a huge squid monster can do to weak people - of course, using them to show “hours” and “minutes” on the dial.

These watches are simply imbued with the aesthetics of the 90s of the last century. But it is unlikely that those who do not remember what an audio cassette looks like will understand this.

As you know, lovers do not watch the clock. That’s right, it’s better for them not to watch this clock.

The name of the wristwatch from designer Denis Guidone is translated from Italian as “One Hour”. The main feature of the watch Ora Unica lies in the absence of the usual dial, because the functions of the minute and hour hands are performed by the ends of a cleverly intertwined strip.

Russian designer Alexander Sorokin from Krasnodar came up with an unusual wristwatch that does not have hands or numbers, but instead of a dial is decorated with a bright image of our planet. And since where the Earth is, its satellite Moon must also be, accordingly, this project is called Earth and moon watch. The Moon, as befits a satellite, moves around the Earth in a circle, measuring the hours, and its shadow, covering part of the planet, counts the minutes. The more area is covered by shadow, the more minutes have passed since the beginning of the new hour. Digital Watch Earth and moon watch are synchronized via satellite, and the built-in GPS module helps the dial in the form of the Earth to show exactly the side of it where the person is currently located. The watch supports day and night mode and two types of backlight, which change depending on the time of day.

“Remember, you will die” this watch carefully reminds its owner. Perhaps this is a good way to learn to separate the important from the unimportant in your life?

Minimalist watch without dial Eye of the Storm

The undisputed contender for first place in terms of simplicity of design will be wristwatches Eye of the Storm designer Yiran Qian. When you press a small button on the case, the watch begins to show the time using two pointers on the borders of the “missing” dial.

Minimalist watch Nadir Watch with inverted arrows - the work of an Australian designer Damian Barton. "Nadir" is translated from Arabic as "opposite". In addition, this word is an astronomical term denoting a direction that completely coincides with the direction of the force of gravity at a given point.

According to the creators of this watch, a person needs very little to be happy. For example, a clock with eyes, the pupils of which show the time - one is minutes, the other is hours. Additional joy for the owner "A Second Of Happiness Watch" may bring replacement dials with different patterns and designs.

Roger Dubuis has released a new collection of watches from the King Arthur series. The clock is a round table around which knights sit, and their golden swords mark the hour mark. The dial (table) is decorated with an inscription in Old English. But all the small details of the figures can only be seen with the help of a magnifying glass.

The vast majority of modern smartwatches have one significant drawback - their touch screens consume a large amount of energy, which is why you have to charge these devices almost every day. But this minus is completely unfamiliar to the device with the name Pebble.
Pebble is one of many cases where a good idea raised enough money on Kickstarter to be implemented and put into mass production. The special thing about this smartwatch is that its screen is based on e-paper technology, which is usually used in e-readers.
The use of e-paper allows smart watches Pebble work for quite a long time - five to seven days. The device has the ability to control calls and some other functions on the smartphone with which it is connected wirelessly. The watch can also work as an alarm clock or timer-organizer - it will vibrate at the set time.
The absence of expensive components makes Pebble the cheapest smartwatch on the market. Their cost is only 150 US dollars ($249 for modification Pebble Steel in a metal case).

Original wristwatch with a “broken” dial

Moto 360 is the iPhone of smartwatches. Companies Motorola, it seems, managed to do what other manufacturers of similar devices can only dream of. In the summer of 2014, she will launch a truly beautiful and stylish watch that will not look like an alien element on a person’s wrist, as if it came into our reality from science fiction films of the seventies of the twentieth century. Moto 360- This is a classic-style watch that, from the outside, cannot be distinguished from a mechanical one. But the watch face in this device is a touch screen that can display not only the hour and minute hands, but also a lot of other information.
Moto 360 can work in phone and navigator mode. They will allow the owner to read and send text messages and email, control music, communicate with friends on social networks, check the weather forecast and perform many other actions. This device also contains several sensors that monitor the health of the person wearing them.

Let's figure out what "complications" are, what they are needed for and why they affect the status and cost of the watch

Let's figure out what "complications" are, why they are needed and why they affect the status and. Chronograph, self-winding, perpetual calendar, moon phase indicator... What is it?

Complex mechanisms

Automatic watch

They are also called “automatic” or “self-winding” watches. The cargo sector (rotor), freely rotating around its axis by 360, is connected to the winding device by a system of reversible and transmission wheels. Thus, each “shake” of the watch causes the rotor to rotate and, accordingly, wind the mechanism.

It is believed that such a mechanism was first designed by Abraham-Louis Perlet in the 18th century, and he gained fame when Abraham-Louis Breguet improved it and began to use it. The first use of self-winding in a wristwatch was made by John Harvard in 1924.

There are two types of automatic winding:

1. Simple - allowing you to wind the watch only when the weight sector rotates in one direction. These watches are also equipped with a regular crown to allow the spring to be wound by hand.

2. Reversible - allowing you to wind the watch by rotating the weight sector in both directions.

In the mid-twentieth century, there was also a fairly common type of rotor that could rotate only part of a revolution, and was limited on each side in its movement by shock-absorbing stops. This is the most impractical type of automatic winding, since it does not allow the use of all hand movements, and the sound of the rotor hitting the stops unnerves the owner. Today it is practically not used.

Chronographs

A chronograph is, to decipher the name, “a device that records time.” Or better yet, time intervals. The chronograph can be installed in a regular watch that counts hours and minutes, or it can exist separately. In the latter case, it is called a stopwatch.

The first mechanism that measured periods of time was designed by John Graham in the 18th century.

Chronographs are driven either by pressing the crown (the first press is start, the second is stop, the third is return to the starting position), or two additional buttons located next to the crown (one button is start and stop, the second is return).

Nowadays the second type is most often used. When the chronograph is started, under the action of a spring, the lever connected to the transmission wheel of the clock mechanism moves and falls into the cavity between the teeth of the column wheel. Thus, the gear wheel interacts with the central chronograph wheel and drives the second hand. The second press of the button causes the column wheel to turn and push out the lever. The wheels separate again and the chronograph mechanism stops.

The minute counter is designed in a similar way: when the seconds chronograph is started, the finger located on the central wheel interacts through the gear wheels with the minute counter wheel and, when the chronograph wheel is fully rotated around its axis, turns the minute wheel by one tooth. Such a minute counter is called an instant counter.

If the minute hand begins to move when the second hand reaches 58 seconds, then the minute counter is called a smooth counter. Chronographs can also be equipped with an hour counter.

There are chronographs without a column wheel, driven by the engagement of two levers connected to transmission wheels.
Chronographs are used for various purposes: chronograph-tachometer (to determine the speed of a moving object), telemeter (to measure the distance to a distant object, provided that the object is visible and audible - such a device is built on knowledge of the speed of sound), pulsometer (to measure pulse) , an asthmameter (breathing rate counter), for recording hot flashes and even for monitoring production processes.

In addition, there are chronographs that record fractions of a second and split-second chronographs: with two seconds hands to measure intermediate results.

Calendars

This part is best depicted in the form of a diagram, since there are quite a few types and subtypes of calendars. So, the calendar in a watch can be regular or lunar. The lunar calendar is somewhat akin to “automata” - common in the 17-18 centuries. devices connected to the clock transmission, and in an oval window located above the dial showing “moving pictures”.

In the lunar calendar, a wheel with 59 teeth has a disk (blue or light blue) with images of stars and two moons. The disk rotates in 59 days, which corresponds to approximately 2 lunar months. During this time, the waxing and waning phases of the drawn moons are shown in a semicircular hole in the dial. During the full moon, the entire moon is visible; during the new moon, only the starry sky is visible.

A regular calendar can be simple and perpetual. The first type requires adjustment at the end of each month that has less than 31 days, the second one takes into account the number of days in the month and leap years. The device of a simple calendar resembles a car speedometer counter. The date numerals are most often shown in a small window located on the circumference of the dial. In this case, a disk with 31 teeth is connected to the central wheel using gear wheels. When the hour and minute hands rotate twice and reach the midnight position, the date advances.

The wheels of the days of the week and months function in a similar way. An example of a watch with a simple calendar: date, month and day of the week, as well as a lunar calendar: the Cosmic model from Omega from 1957 (?). In it, the days of the week and months are shown in a window, and the dates are located around the dial and are marked with an arrow.

In watches with a perpetual calendar, the movement is often located on a separate plate (for example, Patek Philippe), as it is quite complex. The principle of its operation is similar to a chronograph: the number of days in a month is regulated by special clamps.

Calendars are also divided by display type. The transition to the next date can be smooth and fast; data can be shown using arrows or disks in the window. There are also such delights as, for example, the retrograde calendar (Parmigiani): the date numbers are located on the dial in a semicircle, and the hand, after completing the cycle, returns to its original position.

Repeaters and striking clocks

Repeaters are watches designed to repeat a sound signal (chime) at will. A simple striking clock strikes the hours and quarters automatically as the hours progress, like tower or mantel clocks. These watches have separate springs for winding the striker.

Repeaters are of the following types: quarter repeaters (beating quarters and hours); half-quarters (hours, quarters, and also half-quarters in a higher tone every 7.5 minutes); five-minute (hours and five minutes); minutes (hours, quarters and minutes).

The first repeater clocks were designed in 1676 by the English watchmakers Barlow and Kware - they struck the hours and quarters.

The repeater parts, as well as the perpetual calendar, are located on a separate plate. The mechanism is operated by a lever that releases the mainspring, which drives the crown, which rotates counterclockwise. The comb teeth deflect the hammer pallets, forcing them to strike.

Alarm clock

This clock works just like a regular mechanical alarm clock. The most famous model of such watches is the Crikcet (“Cricket”) from Vulcan, so named for its bell, reminiscent of the chirping of this insect.

Tourbillon

This device is considered one of the most complex in watch movements. Its purpose is to compensate for the effect of gravity and ensure the stability of the balance-spring in all watch positions.
The “father” of the tourbillon is considered to be Abraham-Louis Breguet, who patented this device in 1800.

The tourbillon is a mobile platform on which the watch mechanism with balance is placed. The platform rotates at a certain set speed. The fastest tourbillon in the world: Albert Potter's 12-second tourbillon watch. Each time the ballance receives an impulse, the platform rotates. This was done so that the center of gravity of the balance constantly changes its position and, thereby, reduces movement errors to a minimum. However, this device has a number of disadvantages, which led to the almost complete disappearance of the tourbillon from watchmaking at the beginning of the twentieth century.

Breguet conceived a mechanism for pocket watches that were constantly in a vertical position. And in a horizontal position, it not only has virtually no effect on the accuracy of movement, but also draws upon itself the energy of the plant, necessary for the rotation of the central wheel of the mechanism. And with the development of modern technologies, when every detail of the movement is calculated down to the micron, the error factor due to a shift in the center of gravity is minimal even without a tourbillon.

Nevertheless, watches with such a mechanism are quite popular. In 1995, Blancpain released the Tourbillon model to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Breguet's invention. It has a calendar, a stopwatch and a 7-day power reserve. The tourbillon itself acts more as a decorative device, the operation of which can be observed through a window in the dial at 12 o’clock.

Complex watch
Such watches can combine three different mechanisms: like the already described Blancpain with a calendar, chronograph and tourbillon, or, for example, a perpetual calendar, minute repeater and chronograph (Patek Philippe).

— the rotating bezel is a rotating ring around the dial, with marks applied to it (the ring).

Typically the bezel scale is similar to the minute/second scale on a dial, marked from 0 to 60, most often with markers every 5 or every 10 minutes (seconds). In such cases, this function is a somewhat simplified analogue of the timer or stopwatch/chronograph used in watches with pointer dials. To work in stopwatch mode, you need to combine the zero on the bezel with the position of the second or minute hand (depending on how long the period needs to be measured), and at the end of the measurement, see what division on the bezel this hand has reached. To operate in timer mode, zero on the rotary scale is set at the end of the countdown, and the user can only monitor whether the arrow has reached zero. Thus, you can literally turn your watch into timer or stopwatch mode with just one turn of the ring - it’s faster and more convenient than digging through the settings. Such capabilities are appreciated, in particular, by scuba divers who use a timer to control air reserves; Moreover, in diving watches the rotation mechanism is often made one-sided, so that the bezel cannot be accidentally turned in the direction of increasing the remaining time.

There are other types of rotating bezels - for example, in the form of a scale with cardinal directions, used in watches with a compass.

IPS screen, voice calls, SMS messages, music player, radio, alarm clock, stopwatch, clock, photo camera, pedometer, vibration alert, mobile phone (micro SIM), remote control for car anti-theft system. Detailed review under the cut...

Times are changing and the phrase “I called you, but you weren’t at home” has long turned into the phrase “I called you, but you apparently didn’t hear.” A phone forgotten in the next room, in the inner pocket of a backpack, and silent mode in the company of the noise of the city - and now the call did not take place, and there will be no timely response to the SMS. Manufacturers of “smart watches” have volunteered to fix this problem of our time. And while famous brands went crazy and put up exorbitant price tags, the Chinese company CHR was more loyal to its product.
Due to the nature of my work, I have to stay in touch almost around the clock. Always carrying a shovel in your pocket can be extremely inconvenient. And if on bike rides you can put your phone in a backpack (and then stop during a call, take it out, answer and return it), then sometimes it is simply impossible to carry it: for example, during morning runs, sports games, etc. The option of a headset in the ear is also no longer available, because... I listen to music a lot with good headphones.
There were a lot of reviews of “smart watches” here, but either the functions were poor (you can’t even read SMS), or the screen was in trouble. I decided to try a higher quality model with an IPS screen, the ability to use it both in tandem with a phone and separately by installing a SIM card + a bunch of useful features such as radio, alarm clock, music control on the phone, pedometer, camera, etc. . Actually, we are meeting a smartphone watch that will both control your phone and do without it...

Package:

Beautiful gift packaging, with high-quality print and silver embossing (on the Internet I saw options with a regular cardboard box, which has no inscriptions at all). Ideal for a gift. There is a feeling that there is a very expensive watch inside. Let's see what's inside

Equipment:

Instructions

Instructions in Chinese and English, headphones, cable and the watch itself. The box contains special “airbags” to prevent the watch from being damaged or scratched during shipment. The set is standard, so we move on and move on to the watch itself.

On the left we see a plug for the Micro USB connector and a microphone.

On the right is a 0.3 megapixel camera and an activation button

The watch is equipped with a 1.55 inch IPS screen with a resolution of 240x240. In the sun, the information is readable, there is a reserve of brightness. For comfortable use, medium brightness is enough. Viewing angles are good, nothing is burned out or inverted

At the top of the screen is a speaker that can be compared to phone speakers. You can hear it well, but on the street you still need to bring your hand closer to your mouth. There is no switching between speakerphone and normal – here you just adjust the volume. If you want, do it quietly and bring the watch to your ear, if you want, do it loudly and during a conversation you can not take your hands off the steering wheel while driving, for example.

Size:

The size of the watch is approximately 6 cm, the screen is 4 cm, the thickness is 1.3 cm. The total length is approximately 25 cm. The watch is designed for any hand size. I wear it on the third space out of eight. Weight about 80g.

Hand size comparison

Battery:

The watch has a battery capacity of 350 mach - with average use (constant bluetooth connection, player control, approximately 2-3 hours of calls), the watch lasted two days. Your phone will run out faster than your watch. In the mode when the SIM card was in the watch, the watch lasted for about a day. Charging time is 45 minutes.
For those who are already planning to write a comment from the series - “I also didn’t have enough to charge the watch,” I will say that with them this procedure is much more convenient. When the phone is charging, I can safely stay in touch, make calls, read SMS and Viber messages. And at the same time, I don’t have to stick to the outlet. And vice versa: while the watch is charging, the phone is in your pocket. Even now, my phone is charging in another room while I write a review and chat with a friend by the hour.

Characteristics

Software part:

Controlling the menu is simple: swipe to go back and forth, tap to enter, long tap to return to the main menu. The watch will not launch some functions until the BTNotification program is downloaded (I haven’t tried it with other programs, this one is enough). The watch offers you to scan a QR code directly from the screen. It is also available via ftp, specified in the instructions with login and password. On the phone itself we indicate which programs should make themselves known to the clock, and which should be blocked. The more notifications we set, the faster the watch and phone run out.

Menu:

I’ll tell you about the menu and each of its items in order.

Calls: You can make both to phone contacts and to those saved in the watch (either enter it yourself or copy it from the phone book). When making a call, you can choose whether we will call from our SIM card or from the phone’s SIM card via Bluetooth. The contact size is 11 characters, the screen size does not allow for more. The call log is displayed in full. On the phone itself you can choose where the call will be made from. Personally, in noisy places, I most often determine the name of the caller by the clock and either immediately hang up or answer by phone.
SMS: You can receive, read, respond. Understands all languages, but unfortunately my firmware version did not have Russian. All this will be corrected for sure, but for now I am writing answers only in Latin.

Player: If headphones are connected to the phone, then the sound comes through them and the watch will act as a remote control (very convenient when the phone is in a backpack, for example). If the headphones are not connected, then when you start the player, the sound will come through the watch speaker (this was already useful once, when while fishing, the phone was lying in the tent, and I was quietly listening to my favorite music with a fishing rod).
Radio: A similar system as with the player. To start the radio on the watch yourself, you need to connect headphones. You can save stations, there is an auto search.
Camera: Here it is VGA and most likely made as a last resort. When your phone is at home, your SIM card is in your watch and you urgently need to take a photo - let it be, it doesn’t ask for food). Here you can watch the captured footage, send it to your phone or then download it via a PC. Your memory here is 1.21 MB

Alarm: It is possible to set up several alarms at once (maximum 5). In each menu we can select the alarm time, repeat mode (once, every day and with a choice of day of the week), melody (12 options + melody from your own file) and ring type (sound only, vibration only and together)
Stopwatch: Standard with the ability to record intermediate results and view them in the future. There is a memory function.
Bluetooth: Here we turn it on/off, find devices, connect and disconnect. Action radius 10 meters
Settings: Changing profiles, setting clocks, security, communications

Notifications: All notifications are configured through the phone application. We ourselves set which programs will send information to the watch screen and which will not. When information reaches the watch, it beeps and vibrates (depending on the selected profile). I really liked that the watch plays the same alarm-reminder melody at the same time. You won't miss anything for sure.
Anti-Lost: This feature is useful for those who like to forget their phone at home or at work. As soon as the watch loses connection with the phone, a nasty siren with vibration turns on and until you turn it off yourself, there will be no peace)
Pedometer: Counts steps, distance traveled in meters and calories lost. It counts more or less accurately if you press your hand to your belt (where the pedometer belongs). When walking freely with a free hand, it does not read readings. When running, your arms are usually bent and pressed to your chest - in this case everything is fine.
Remote capture: A separate item can be used to connect to the smartphone’s camera, but this can only be done if the phone’s camera is turned on in advance. The clock cannot start it on its own.
Personal Information: Asks for gender, height, weight and date of birth. It’s not clear why the watch needs this information? Will they wish me a happy birthday?
Car Theft: remote control for car anti-theft system. Didn't check
Find Phone: The watch makes you turn on the siren and flash a multi-colored screen, notifying your location. I like to lose my phone around the apartment, so this function came in handy a couple of times.
SleepMonitor: Tracking sleep phases and schedules

A clock like a clock:

The dials switch after a short tap, then follow the arrows. When you turn your hand to see the time, the watch automatically turns on the dial. A useful feature, especially when the other hand is busy.

Closer up on the hand:

Close-up

Conclusion:

I won’t say that calling for hours is incredibly convenient. But over these couple of weeks I’ve gotten so used to them that now, out of habit, I start looking at my regular watch when the phone rings in my pocket. I can recommend the watch to those who live an active life and it is not possible to keep a phone (especially with its size) at hand at all times, but communication is necessary. The watch has performed well, but it also has its drawbacks. From the very beginning I couldn’t understand whether they would be useful to me, but now I understand that they are much more convenient than using a Bluetooth headset. I think in a year I’ll be looking at Android models.

Plus:

Possibility to use as an independent communication device
+ Good screen
+ Accelerometer
+ Convenient music control
+ Ability to customize notifications from any program
+ Good battery life (my phone runs out faster)
+ Parallel alarm tone for phone note reminders and alarm clock

Minus:

Lack of Russian language (will be solved by firmware)
- They don’t know how to choose which SIM card to call from (I think they’ll fix the firmware too)
- Can’t start the phone camera on their own

Actually, I tried to make the review as detailed as possible. He pointed out the disadvantages, advantages, expressed his own opinion and gave examples of use. If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer. Give positives, point out mistakes and be healthy...

I'm planning to buy +53 Add to favorites I liked the review +41 +81
