How to set up a new asus laptop with windows. What to do after buying a laptop. Seven important things to do immediately after buying a new laptop

Instructions

When purchasing, check with the seller whether the laptop comes with a pre-installed operating system or not. This will help determine how the new . The general rule for starting a new laptop (whether the operating system is installed or not) is that the battery must be inserted and the laptop itself must be connected to the electrical outlet. The connection to the electrical network is carried out so that the laptop is not installed during the installation of the operating system.

If the laptop comes with a pre-installed operating system, connect it to the network and press the power button. After turning on the power, the installation of the operating system, the distribution kit of which is located on a special hidden partition of the hard drive, should start on a device that has not been turned on. Carefully follow all stages of OS installation. If you need an activation key during installation, you can read it on the bottom cover of the laptop. Do not turn off the power to the laptop until the operating system is completely installed.

If the laptop was sold without an operating system (or with the DOS or Linux operating system), the first time you turn it on, you will need to install the desired operating system. Purchase a distribution kit of the required operating system on an optical disk, connect the laptop to an electrical outlet, turn it on, wait for DOS or Linux to load, and then insert the Windows disk (you can use a flash card instead of the disk if the laptop does not have an optical drive). Restart your computer and go into the BIOS, setting the priority for loading the OS from an optical drive (or from a flash card), and save the changes. Then install Windows, unplug your laptop, and use it as you please.

Every user wants to have the most powerful computer possible. Optimization using software increases productivity by no more than 15-20%. Therefore, you have to think about upgrading your computer with new hardware. Upgrading a computer is a fun and not so difficult task, but it takes a toll on your finances.

Instructions

The choice of processor and motherboard must occur simultaneously. You can match the processor to the board or vice versa. Almost everything depends on the choice of processor. He is for productivity, speed and more. Modern represents. However, the principle of more cores, the better, is not entirely fair. Multi-core processors can cause many problems due to hardware errors. Judging by the frequency, then it is justified to choose a processor with the highest frequency. It must be at least three gigahertz.

The motherboard must be multifunctional. The BIOS version must be up to date. The more extensions the board supports, the better. Each bridge should ideally have its own radiator, but this is not a prerequisite. The motherboard must support the connectors of modern video cards and RAM sticks.

The most important element for pumping up a computer is the power supply. The power supply to all parts of your system unit depends on it. Therefore, the higher the power value, the better.

The choice of video card is individual for each user. The main parameters for choosing a board are the bus frequency and memory size. The memory size must be at least 1024 megabytes. Modern video games are demanding. The amount of RAM should be at least 3-4 gigabytes.

When upgrading your computer, in addition to the hardware, pay attention to the software. Install the latest version of the operating system. Have a set of utilities for optimizing and defragmenting hard drives and the system as a whole.

Each of us wants to get the most out of our computer. Of course, when purchasing, we strive to choose the most suitable configuration for us, but over time, the need arises to improve the computer - either for our own convenience, or in order to modernize it. There are several main ways in which you can make your computer better.

Instructions

First of all, this is the modernization of outdated equipment. Update parts such as motherboard and card periodically. If you use your computer primarily for gaming, then it is worth updating and also purchasing additional RAM at least every two to three years.

Monitor your computer's operation at all times. Periodically disassemble and wipe it from dust, try to perform a full scan for viruses and as often as possible. To ensure that your computer functions as stable as possible, defragment it at least once a month. Handle your computer carefully, and never allow open containers of liquid near it - if water gets in, you may not be able to recover the data on it.

Tune your computer - both inside and out. If this is your personal computer, modify its appearance the way you want. There is a lot of information on external computer tuning, one of the most common types is the installation of neon lamps both outside and inside the system unit, the use of transparent plastic, LEDs - everything that will make your computer attractive and unusual.

Don't forget about internal tuning. If you are not satisfied with the default theme, use programs to change the loading screen and theme! Find these programs on the Internet, install and use the design style that suits you.

Video on the topic

Frustrated because your brand new computer is running very slowly? Additional software installed on it can greatly slow down the system as a whole. To solve this problem, you need to get rid of programs that you don't plan to ever use.

Software package

PC manufacturers sometimes enter into agreements with software developers to install trial versions of programs on new computers. For example, many computers come with free versions of games that offer payment for continued use after the trial period has expired. For retailers, this is a source of additional profit. Such applications have a significant impact on the operation of the computer. Firstly, they slow down the boot process of the system as a whole, and secondly, they leave less computing power for other programs.

Uninstalling individual programs

If you want to remove only one such application, use the standard Add/Remove Programs utility. This approach is ideal when specific software is causing problems. However, if your computer is part of a computer network, you may not be able to use this method due to insufficient rights.

Third-party system cleaning programs

To more completely clean the system of unwanted programs, you can use specialized applications, for example, Revo Uninstaller, Uninstall Tool, etc. In addition, to clean the Windows system registry, which stores the configurations of all installed programs, you can also use special applications, for example, RegSeeker, IObit, CCleaner, etc. This system cleaning method is especially useful when removing antivirus programs.

Reinstalling Windows

If the problem of heavy system load cannot be solved by conventional methods, you can take a radical step and reinstall the operating system. This approach guarantees you complete disposal of unnecessary third-party applications. Before you reinstall the OS, make sure that you have the latest legal version of the operating system and the drivers necessary to ensure full functionality of all computer systems.

Nothing will help the computer industry stay afloat more than the interesting fact that purchasing a laptop also entails purchasing a whole bunch of a wide variety of add-ons. The most important thing is to purchase the software, and only then the peripheral devices. A wide variety of gadgets and technical innovations. In general, the computer can be improved and improved. We present to your attention the 10 most useful laptop accessories.

Laptop bag

Buy a comfortable and beautiful bag. You can ask your friends for an opinion, or you can try to find manufacturers of quality bags in online stores. You can go to the store yourself, taking your laptop with you.

Spare battery

Nothing gives a person with a laptop such a sense of freedom as a battery. A spare battery allows you to double the operating time of your computer if you cannot connect it to a power outlet. Some laptops allow you to replace the battery while you're working, which can greatly improve the productivity of your work. It is necessary to check whether the spare battery is really suitable. The battery must be made by the same manufacturer, or by a company that guarantees its full compatibility with your laptop. If you use the wrong battery, this can lead to very disastrous consequences.

Webcam

If you don’t have a camera, you can purchase one at any nearby store. Buy a camera with a USB connector. It goes without saying how important a webcam is today.

Cooling pad

This is a very important and necessary accessory for any laptop. The stand, as the name suggests, is necessary for cooling the laptop. It contains several fans, batteries or a USB port. The laptop is placed on a stand, and the fans themselves remove heat. Overall, a stand helps your laptop last longer.

Mini vacuum cleaner

Vacuum cleaners are necessary to clean your laptop, especially the keyboard. They are sold in office supply stores. Many mini vacuum cleaners are portable, meaning they run on a battery.

USB lamp

The laptop's LCD monitor is well lit, but the same cannot be said for the keyboard and other important devices. Therefore, you can use a lamp that connects to a USB port.

Full keyboard

Agree, it is always more pleasant to work with a full-fledged keyboard rather than a laptop keyboard. This is especially important if you need a comfortable num-pad keyboard.

Mouse

Needless to say, in most cases a wireless computer mouse is better than a touchpad. Of course, the touchpad can be used quite skillfully and comfortably, but a computer mouse is many times more convenient.

ID card

The card indicates the laptop parameters and your contact information. The point is to make sure your laptop doesn't get lost. If your laptop gets lost, you can always find and identify it.

Anti-theft system.

This is a security cable or a special alarm that starts squealing if the laptop is moved from its place

This happens to all users of computers or laptops: some time after purchasing the device, it turns out that for some reason all its power is not enough, it takes minutes to start, all applications freeze from any attempt by the user to do anything. And the only way to close frozen programs is to disconnect the computer from the network. Then you should follow these steps.

Instructions

Remove unused programs. It is also necessary to analyze those programs installed by the manufacturer. For example, Asus always has a lot of applications, most of which are not required by the average user.
Many programs run in the background (for example, to constantly monitor updates on the Internet). Therefore, you need to look at all the applications that start automatically when the computer boots - and for some, cancel autostart.

For Windows, it is worth doing disk defragmentation (located in Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools). In addition to the built-in utilities of the operating system, you can use other tools. The CCleaner program perfectly cleans the registry, removes unnecessary files and cache. You just need to correctly configure the deleted data for programs (for example, do not delete passwords saved in browsers, etc.)

When a beginner buys a new computer (both desktop and laptop), already completely ready for work, he does not always think that for his own convenience, as well as to prevent various problems in the future, it would be good to do a number of actions with the new computer. Well, this applies even more to situations when a computer is purchased for spare parts (in the case of stationary PCs) or without an installed operating system, i.e. which you cannot work on immediately after purchase!

In this article, I will try to talk about what actions it is advisable to take after purchasing a computer that is, in principle, ready for use, as well as when purchasing a computer without a pre-installed operating system, or even purchased using spare parts for subsequent self-assembly.

If you are currently interested in the process of choosing a computer and purchasing it, then I have already written a number of articles about this on the blog, which you can easily find in the “All blog articles” section or by searching.

I will begin to consider those cases when the computer was purchased without an operating system or even for spare parts. In principle, the essence will be the same, but the difference is only in one point: in the first case, the computer has already been assembled and actions begin from the stage of installing the operating system (I mean Windows), and in the second case, the computer still needs to be assembled.

What to do with a computer without Windows pre-installed after purchase?

So, let's assume that you bought a computer that initially did not have an operating system installed, or Linux was installed (which is free, but not many people can fully work on it) or some kind of DOS in the form of a black screen with commands (on which it is generally unrealistic to work fully). As a rule, this option costs at least 3,000–5,000 rubles cheaper, because the cost of an assembled computer ready for use will, accordingly, include the cost of a licensed copy of the Windows operating system. By buying a computer without a system or with the above OS options, you save this money. But in this case, the computer will have to be thoroughly prepared for work!

So you brought your computer home (perhaps with spare parts for assembly) and you already want to start work or some of your business, games, for example, as soon as possible :) What to do at this stage?

Here is what needs to be done in order in order to bring such a computer to full combat readiness:

Computer assembly (if required!). In my articles, I have already mentioned that if you buy a computer by individual components, it will be cheaper and more reliable than buying an already assembled computer! I described how to choose a computer for work purposes (not gaming!) based on individual components. There is a similar article on the selection of a gaming PC.

If you decide to buy a computer using separate parts, then the first step will be to assemble it, i.e. place all of its individual components in the case of the future computer and connect the necessary power cables. At a minimum, in the case you should have: a power supply; motherboard on which the processor with cooler and RAM will be connected (minimum 1 module); HDD. This is the minimum for your computer to work, taking into account the fact that the board itself should already have a built-in video card, sound card and network card.

Read more about all the main components of a computer in the article:

Install operating system. After you have assembled the computer, when you turn it on, you will not be able to observe the Windows boot that you are used to, and therefore you will not be able to work on such a computer :) The second thing you need to do is install the operating system on the computer so that you can even before running it settings to do a minimum of your tasks: create / edit some documents, perhaps start a video, look at photos, work with folders and files and many other small tasks where third-party software is not required. And if you're lucky, you'll be able to get online right away.

Why "if you're lucky"? Because not always when installing Windows, the system will be able to find and install the required driver for your network adapter. A driver is a program that controls a device so that it works properly and performs its functions.

The vast majority of users today work on computers with the Windows operating system. When consciously purchasing a computer without Windows pre-installed, you should have taken into account the fact that you already have an installation disk with this operating system somewhere!

Thus, the first thing we do after the purchase is install Windows (if you happen to be working on Linux, then install it, respectively). Detailed installation guides for different operating systems will be published in the future in our community, in a closed area, because this entire process, as well as the process of setting up the system, can raise a lot of questions for beginners. But I don’t have enough free time to be able to help absolutely everyone :)

Setting up the operating system. Immediately after installing the operating system, you will not be able to fully work on it, not only because the programs you need have not yet been installed, but also because drivers for some devices may not be installed, the screen resolution has not been adjusted and, probably, ( or not configured according to your preferences) some other parameters.

Therefore, first of all, after you have already installed Windows on your computer and launched it, you should check for which devices drivers were not automatically installed? You can check this by going to Windows by following the path: Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > “Device Manager” link under the “Devices and Printers” section:

If the correct drivers are installed for all devices and the devices themselves are working as they should, then you will simply see a list of all devices detected by the system:

And if a driver is suddenly not automatically installed on some device, it will immediately be highlighted in the list with a yellow question mark with the name “Unknown Device”. The device will not work without the driver. For example, there was no driver for the network card, which means that you will not be able to access the Internet. Or, let's say, the system did not recognize the video card, as a result of which you may see clumsy display of colors, incorrect screen resolution and, of course, you will not be able to play 3D games. Therefore, it is very important that drivers are installed for all devices, and you only see a list of devices without any warnings, as shown in the image.

Most often, problems with drivers after system installation occur in the long-outdated Windows XP. For everyone who is still suddenly using this system, it’s high time to switch from it! :) WindowsXP independently installs drivers only for a minimum of devices, and also does not know how to independently find them via the Internet.

In the latest systems - Windows 7.8, most of the drivers will already be installed immediately after installing the system. The system will try to find the rest on the Internet and most likely the problem will be solved!

But, if suddenly there is no driver for some device, you will have to install it manually. In this case, the following options may exist:

After you have installed the drivers, all you have to do in the system itself is to customize everything to your taste and needs. For example, put on the desktop the necessary shortcuts for quick access to some sections of Windows and built-in programs, someone can adjust the font size, screen resolution, and color scheme.

But this can be done later, and the more important task after installing all the drivers is to install the programs you need!

Installing the necessary programs. When you have already installed the system, installed drivers (if necessary) for all devices not recognized by the system, it’s time to install the programs necessary for your work. In principle, there is nothing to comment on at this point. You need to install, one by one, the programs that you will use during your work. Someone will also install games :)

All the programs you need should already be on your disks or somewhere in your other storage. Well, some can simply be re-downloaded from the Internet.

Then all that remains is to customize each of the programs for yourself and you’re done!

After completing this step, your computer is ready for use, but you can also complete step No. 5 for future convenience.

Creating a backup of your system with installed drivers/programs. This step is not necessary, but after you install a clean operating system on your new computer, install all the drivers and programs, I would recommend backing up your entire system. Why is this necessary? And this is needed in case that as a result of some kind of failure, you can return the system, along with drivers and programs, to its previous form (at the time when you created the copy) in a few minutes.

Otherwise, if the Windows system crashes and you cannot fix it yourself, you will have to install it again, then install all the drivers and programs on it, and also configure something. You don’t have to do all this if you prepare a copy of a ready-to-use system in advance!

I talked in detail about how to do this in the article:

That's all! These are all the steps that need to be completed so that your brand new computer can be used for any of your purposes and at the same time (by following step No. 5), be able to quickly return the entire system to the moment when you installed all the drivers and programs.

I also want to touch a little on those computers that are purchased with the Windows operating system pre-installed.

Tips for setting up a purchased computer with Windows already preinstalled!

If you bought a computer with the Windows operating system already installed, then everything becomes much simpler. You won't have to install Windows since it will already be on the computer, and you won't have to install drivers afterwards since they will all already be installed.

All you have to do is install the necessary programs and that’s it!

I recommend that beginners buy a ready-made computer, because in this case all you have to do is connect it to the power supply, connect the necessary devices (for example, a keyboard, mouse, printer) and you can start working. The only negative is the overpayment.

I’ll give you some tips on what would be a good idea to do after purchasing a computer with a pre-installed operating system:

It often happens that when purchasing a computer with a pre-installed operating system, the user completely uninstalls it and installs the version of the operating system that he was used to using previously. “What's the point?” you ask. The whole point is that those versions of Windows that are installed on ready-made desktop computers and laptops are, as a rule, stripped down. For example, there is a “Windows 8 Professional” build, and there is a “Windows 8 Core” build, which is inferior to the first in some features: the ability to configure group policies, encryption, joining a domain, using the windowsmediacenter program, and more. Not everyone uses these features, and some cannot distinguish the functionality of the most stripped-down version from the most advanced. But still, people apparently don’t like it when they are given something cut down, as a result of which they reinstall the system on their own :) In this case, in order for everything to work as it should, you will have to follow those 5 points which I spoke about.

In both cases, you won’t have to do anything particularly complicated with the computer. I could, of course, give detailed instructions on all the steps listed, but in this case it would not be an article, but rather a small book :) Because there is a lot of information and many topics will be touched upon at once. But for beginners, one way or another, over time I will prepare the necessary instructions for working with a computer.

That's all for today. Have a nice day! Bye;)

Steps
on a new computer

You have purchased (or want to purchase) a new desktop computer or laptop with the Windows Operating System installed. I'll tell you about the first steps on a new computer.

How to connect a new laptop

Connecting a laptop for the first time

Initially, you need to connect a power supply to the laptop.
Which consists of AC adapter, connection cable
adapter to power supply (to socket) and connection cable
adapter for laptop.

(Click on the picture to enlarge)

Of course, the laptop has a battery and may have some
time to work without connecting a power supply. But the battery charge
the new laptop is small. And you won't be able to work on it.
for a long time, without constant recharging.

In addition, the brightness of the screen when the laptop is running without a connected
power supply, significantly lower. Because it's automatic
Power saving mode is activated.

So, connect both cables to the AC adapter.
Cable connecting the adapter to the laptop – available separately
from the adapter or, as in the picture above, initially connected
to the adapter.

The plug for connecting to a laptop also looks different,
from different brands. Sometimes at right angles, as in the picture, and sometimes
and straight. But no matter how the plug looks, you connect it to the laptop.

The connector for connecting DC power to a laptop has
such an icon. On the laptops I worked on, the connector
was located on the left side panel, the bottom of the laptop. Closer
to the back wall.

The second cable is connected to a power source. That is, to the outlet. And you can turn on the laptop, by briefly pressing the power button. On a laptop, it is most often under the LCD screen. For a desktop computer – on the front panel of the system unit.

How to activate Windows OS on a new computer or laptop

Activation
Windows Operating System
on a new computer or laptop

For the first time, after turning on the computer and loading completely
Windows OS - the system will prompt you to activate Windows
on a new computer.

The label with the Windows activation key is pasted by the seller.

On a laptop there is a sticker on the bottom of the laptop.
Simply put, turn the laptop upside down and you will see.

A desktop computer has a sticker on one
from the side walls of the system unit.

The label looks something like this.

The quality of the photo, of course, is not important, but the activation key is visible quite clearly. And the fact that it consists of 5 blocks of 5 characters is obvious. It is clear that there will be a different key on your computer. And the color of the label may vary.

So what are your actions after
the system will prompt you to activate Windows.

Translate the language from RU to EN at the bottom of the screen.
If you want, you can turn on the Caps Lock key to type
capital letters. Or use the Shift key. And enter the key
activation in a line with a blinking cursor. Then you confirm it
action at the bottom of the tab. And that's it... Activation has taken place.

After activation, you are the legal owner
Windows OS on your computer.

And it is you who have the rights
Administrator on your computer.

The operating system on your computer will be
updated regularly. And, if necessary,
You can contact technical support
Microsoft.

Hello, dear readers of the blog site. Today I propose to examine such an interesting question as to what programs every PC user needs to have on their computer.

Of course, we can simply install all the programs that we can find on the Internet and say that these programs will be enough. With a high degree of probability this will indeed be the case, but I will present my minimum necessary list, the programs of which will be useful to any PC user.

Of course, there are specific programs for webmasters, programmers, system administrators, builders, lawyers, etc. We will leave them alone. Those who use them themselves know that they need these programs.

I admit, I am writing this article as a cheat sheet for myself, since I often have to reinstall the operating system on different computers and, accordingly, install a minimum set of programs. Every time I ask myself: “Did I forget to install something else?”

Here is the list I suggest:

Archiver

Windows operating systems already have a built-in archiver that can extract zip-archives, but that’s where its meager functionality ends. Obviously, these capabilities are not enough even for an inexperienced user. Therefore, I definitely install a third-party archiver 7-zip.

7-zip is free, can handle many formats, and has many essential features.

Office suite

If you have a Microsoft Office license, then, of course, install it. If there is no license (and this is 90% of cases) then install OpenOffice- a set of office programs similar to the Microsoft Office package.

Includes:

  • text editor - Writer;
  • spreadsheet editor - Calc;
  • presentation preparation program - Impress;
  • vector graphic illustrator - Draw;
  • mechanism for connecting to the DBMS - Base;
  • formula editor - Math.

This software package is absolutely free, which is its undeniable advantage. OpenOffice has a wide range of functionality, which is enough to perform 99% of all tasks, and has a simple interface similar to the interface of Microsoft Office 2003, so even those who are used to working in a paid package from Microsoft will not have any difficulty understanding OpenOffice.

I usually install a browser from Google. I already wrote an article, so I won’t repeat it. You can install any other alternative browser that the end user will like. My choice remains with Chrome.

By the way, if you haven’t missed it, just recently there was news on the Internet that the browser Opera also switches to the WebKit engine that Chrome is built on. =)

Document readers

First of all, we are talking about Adobe Reader- a free program for reading documents in . An alternative to this program could be Foxit Reader.

There is also a fairly popular e-book format - djvu. Accordingly, we must install a program to support this format - djvu viewer.

Music

For listening to music I recommend Aimp. In my opinion, this is one of the best solutions today. The free music player's interface is very similar to the popular WinAmp. Supports a huge number of formats, has extensive capabilities for working with playlists, supports " Hotkeys“, has its own audio converter and much more.

Video

A player that allows you to view many video formats (including DVD format), without installing additional codecs. This avoids the problem.

Despite the fact that I install KMPlayer on almost all computers, I also do not forget to install K-lite Codec Pack- a set of codecs for video and audio processing, since many users are accustomed to using the built-in Windows Media Player. By installing a set of codecs, you will avoid complaints from the user that they cannot play video or have no sound.

Burning discs and images

There are a lot of programs for working with disks. I recommend using InfraRecorder. Despite its small size, it allows you to perform all necessary operations.

The program is also very easy to use ImgBurn. I wrote about how to burn a disk image using ImgBurn.

Remote access

Of course the program TeamViewer out of competition. I have already written an article about how to work with this program, you can read it.

Someone may ask why install a remote access program, because you can come, fix or set up a computer and take money for it. Absolutely true, but sometimes users call about completely trivial matters, because of which they not only don’t want to go, but also don’t want to get out of their chair. This is where TeamViewer comes to the rescue. You can connect, set everything up, explain it, show it in 5 minutes. We feel good and the client is happy that the problem was solved in a matter of minutes.

Plus, most of them still want to thank you for your help. Usually everything is decided by the amount of 50-100 rubles on the phone account. 🙂 Not bad, considering that you didn’t get up from your seat.

There are a huge number of sites on the Internet that distribute a variety of viruses. These can be various Trojans, banners that extort money for “unlocking” the computer, viruses that redirect to other pages, keyloggers, and sniffers. In general, what kind of infection could they come up with? There is simply no way to go without an antivirus these days.

On the Internet you can find a lot of information about both paid antiviruses and free ones. Among the paid ones there are 2 flagships: Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Dr.Web. Among the free ones, I would highlight: Avira And Avast.

I will not bother identifying the best of them, since this is a topic for a separate article and a topic for endless debate. Let me just say that I am no stranger to computers and viruses, and I still prefer to use paid products. I buy a Kaspersky Anti-Virus license for one year. It comes out to about 1000 rubles for two computers, which, in my opinion, is reasonable money for the time and nerves saved.

I think I can end my list here. If anyone has suggestions to change it, I would be happy to consider the proposed option.

It is believed that after purchase a new laptop or computer is ready for use. In practice, this is not true, and there are a number of steps you need to take before you start using your new laptop.

Laptop setup

Our readers often send us questions: I bought a new laptop and what to do next, where to start, how to set up a new asus laptop, how to set up a new lenovo laptop, how to set up a new acer laptop, how to set up a new hp laptop. The procedure for setting up a new laptop is the same and does not depend on the manufacturer. It is worth noting that it is more profitable to purchase a new laptop with a pre-installed operating system, rather than purchasing a laptop and the Windows operating system separately. In addition to the fact that buying a laptop without an operating system and Windows separately will cost more, you may have to use the services of a specialist to install the operating system on the laptop.

Create an account

When you turn on your laptop for the first time on the Windows operating system, when entering settings, the system will ask you to set a username and password. It is not necessary to create a password; if you do not create it, you will be able to log into the computer without a password. If a password was not created upon first launch, it can be created if necessary in the User Accounts section. You should not expect that the password will reliably protect against unauthorized access to the laptop; it will not be difficult for a specialist to quickly reset the Windows login password and gain access to the system. We wrote about this on our website in the article How to reset a password on Windows. The password will help limit access to the laptop for children and not very advanced computer users. To reliably restrict access to a laptop, you need to use more complex settings and special tools.

Partitioning the hard drive

If your new laptop only has one partition that contains both the operating system and data, it needs to be divided into two partitions. This may be useful in the future if you need to reinstall the operating system. When you reinstall the operating system, all user data on the disk on which the operating system is installed will be destroyed. If the data is placed on another drive (after the hard drive is partitioned), it will be preserved after reinstalling the operating system. In Windos 8 and Windows 10, you can partition your hard drive in several ways.

There may be many programs installed on a laptop, the purpose of which is unknown to the user. As a rule, most of them are trial versions and programs with limited functionality. To get information about the program, you can type its name in any search engine. After you have received information about the program, you can decide whether it is needed on the laptop. There is a rule that the fewer programs installed on a computer, the more stable it works. It’s better to immediately remove everything you don’t need and install what you need. There is a danger of overdoing it; you should not remove programs from the laptop manufacturer that can be used to update drivers on your laptop. There is an opinion that it is better to immediately reinstall the operating system and install the necessary drivers and programs from the laptop manufacturer’s website on a clean system.

Installing drivers and operating system updates

You must install all available operating system updates on your new laptop. Updates must be installed because they correct detected security problems, eliminate operational problems, and increase the stability and performance of the operating system. On the laptop manufacturer's website, in the support section for this model, you can download and install all the latest drivers and the latest BIOS version.
