It is very difficult to imagine our life without the Internet; it is used every day and is the basis of our comfort. That is why a WiFi router (Dlink, Tplink, Zyxel, etc.) today is the main network equipment that is used in almost every home, apartment or office.

A Wi-Fi router makes it possible to turn a stable cable Internet connection into a convenient wireless connection through which you can connect smartphones, tablets, TVs, laptops and any other devices. But before you get such a wireless connection, you need the correct one (or 192.168.0.1, depending on the router manufacturer and device model). This is quite simple to do and this procedure will not take much of your time, but for a beginner everything seems complicated and confusing. Correctly setting up the router helps solve problems with Wi-Fi connections.

How to log into a Wi-Fi router to configure the addresses 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1 (admin admin).

Your WiFi router has its own firmware inside it, it has its own interface through which you can perform various manipulations with the settings. But initially you need to go to your router, see all these settings, and only then start changing their parameters.

In order to log into the router for initial setup, you need to use a cable connection (LAN, Ethernet). A laptop with a network adapter installed is suitable for these purposes. So, you need to connect an Ethernet cable (network) from your provider to the WAN port on the back panel of your router (as a rule, this port has a different color, yellow and is shifted away from the others).

If you live in an apartment building, such a cable is brought directly into the apartment when connecting to the Internet and interactive (iptv) television. Along with the router, another network cable is sold, which you need to insert into the LAN port of your computer and one of the LAN ports on the back panel of the router.

After connecting the router to the computer, you need to go to the router settings. Any installed browser (Chrome, Yandex, Firefox, IE, etc.) is suitable for this. Open the browser and enter http://192.168.0.1 in the address bar (you can do it without http).

You can see which address is in your router in the instructions, on the sticker on the bottom of the router, or just try entering both of these addresses in the browser line. After you have entered the above address into the browser line and pressed Enter, you will be prompted to enter your username and password. If you see a window asking for a password, it means that all the previous steps were completed correctly, and you are already very close to your goal.

All WiFi routers use the same login and password - admin/admin. You need to enter the value “admin” in the login line, and “admin” in the password line. After this, you will be taken to the router settings and can configure the Internet and Wi-Fi network settings. The settings depend on the type of service provided by your provider.

Most of them provide automatic settings, so you should already have the Internet working right away through a cable connection. All you have to do is go to “Wireless Network Settings”, where you need to specify the desired WiFi network name, security type and password. Now you can try connecting your laptop or smartphone to the wireless network. If it doesn't work, read on.

I can't log into the router using admin admin. 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1 do not open.

You entered your username and password (admin admin), but were unable to log into the router, or were you denied access? This problem is quite common and you can solve it yourself.

Here are a few reasons why you may have difficulty logging into 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. Perhaps you have a used router (from a friend or acquaintances), which means that the previous owner could have set his own username and password to increase the level of security. Or you bought an exhibition copy in a store (from a display case), which was tested, repeatedly configured, and the standard password can also be changed.

It may also be that the router’s firmware simply crashed and does not correctly accept the information you entered. Don't be afraid, the problem can be solved. But before proceeding with further actions, you need to make sure that you are entering your username and password on the English keyboard layout and Caps Lock is turned off.

The solution to this problem is very simple - you need to reset the router settings. To do this, you need to find the factory reset button on the back of your router. As a rule, it is small in size and recessed into the body, so it must be pressed with something thin (a paper clip, a pin, a toothpick). This is done so that you cannot accidentally press this button and reset all your previous settings.

Near the reset button, as a rule, the word “Reset” is indicated, but some manufacturers do not have this inscription. If you cannot find this button, then use the instructions for your router, in the section on resetting to factory settings, where its location will be indicated in detail.

In order to reset to factory settings and return the login and password to “admin/admin”, you need to disconnect all power cords, leaving only the power cable from the outlet. After this, you need to hold down the reset button for 10-15 seconds. You will see how all the indicators on the front panel of the router light up and go out, after which you can release the button, connect all the network cords and try to log into the router again (192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1). The login and password will already be standard, as well as all the settings inside will be factory default.

As you can see, everything is very simple; you need to spend a few minutes to configure the router. Initially, you need to connect the router correctly, using the manufacturer’s recommendations, which are in the instructions. After that, go to the settings through the browser on your computer. Today, all manufacturers have a clear and simple interface for settings, so even a beginner can figure it out. If you have any questions, ask in the comments.

The Rostelecom company provides its subscribers with various equipment for rent, including routers. The company is not involved in the production of equipment, but in world practice a scheme is widely used in which the manufacturer supplies the provider with equipment without a logo, and the provider already applies his own. Rostelecom does the same (it cooperates with companies Huawei, zte, eltex, sagemcom, etc.), which means that clients may have different models in use. In this article we will look at universal ways to access your router settings.

How to enter the router settings

So, you rented or bought a router, came home and want to set up the Internet or make some other settings (for example). To do this, you need to open the package, connect power and a cable to the router, but not the one that comes into your apartment from the entrance, but the one that will connect the router to a computer or laptop. Connect the other end of the cable to your turned on computer. For most router models, the admin panel is available at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 . Type one of them into the address bar of your browser and press enter.

After this, a window for entering your login and password should appear in front of you.

The username and password for logging in are indicated in the operating instructions for the router, but if you could not find such information there, then try the following combinations:

  • login - admin, password - empty
  • login - admin, password - admin
  • login - admin, password - password
  • login - admin, password - 1234

If one of the combinations is correct, then a page with available router settings will open in front of you.

If these options do not work, then you need to reset the settings to factory settings. To do this, find the Reset button on the back wall and press it for a few seconds while the router is turned on.

Basic settings of the Rostelecom router

The first tab of the router settings displays summary information about the current state of the device. We don't make any settings here.

The second tab is where you configure your Internet connection. Select the interface you need (in our case PPPoE/VPN) and click on the “add connection” button.

In the window that opens, you need to select a protocol, come up with a name for the connection, enter a username and password for Internet access (this information should be in your contract), as well as the server address. Leave the remaining items in the "auto" state.

If you have several computers at home, then on the next tab you can assign each device its own IP address on your home network.

The next tab is responsible for setting up Wi-Fi. Here you need to set the name of your network, select the encryption type and come up with a password.

The manufacturer regularly releases firmware updates that correct errors found by users and add new functionality to the device. That's why it's worth checking regularly for available updates. Go to the settings tab and find the “update” item there. The screen will display the current firmware version and the version available for update. All you have to do is click on the “install” button.

As you can see, if you have minimal knowledge, you can configure the router yourself without calling a company specialist to your home. Ask questions in the comments and we will help you, but in the meantime we recommend watching a video on this topic.

I tried to make this instruction as simple as possible in order to explain to network newcomers how to enter the router settings using its IP address 192.168.1.1. It will be relevant when setting up routers Asus, Zyxel, TP-Link, Tenda, as well as branded routers Rostelecom, Dom.ru, TTK and Beeline. It is no less useful for more confident PC users who want to improve their level of knowledge in the field of network technologies, or who have difficulty accessing the router’s configuration interface via IP or.

Attention! This insert is for the “little ones” in IT. Experienced people can safely skip it!
The fact is that this small device with antennas and wires connected to it, which distributes the Internet to your laptop, TV and TV, is called a router or, as it is popularly called, a router (router in English means “Router” "). Inside this box there is its own processor, RAM and even its own operating system, usually based on Linux. It is also called “firmware”. It must be updated regularly and must be pre-configured before use. Since the router has Ethernet ports and a WiFi access point, that is, it is a network device, it also has its own local address - usually IP 192.168.1.1. When logging in, authorization is required, where you need to specify a login and password. Typically the password used is admin and the login is admin. But not always!

Some manufacturers use a different local IP address by default to log into the control panel. A striking example is the Xiaomi router with the address 192.168.31.1, Huawei uses 192.168.100.1, Belkin uses 192.168.2.1, and MikroTik has an IP of 192.168.88.1. The factory login and password may also differ. As a hint for the user, the manufacturer usually puts special stickers on their gadgets, which spell out all the access parameters. You can find it by turning the router upside down. And if it does not lie down, but stands vertically, then the sticker is usually glued to the back of the case.

And here users may encounter various problems that they sometimes cannot cope with on their own. Let's discuss in detail all the problems that arise with access to the router and how to solve them.

Login to settings via 192.168.1.1

In order to access the web interface of a network device, you will in any case need a computer or laptop. You can also log in from a tablet or phone - I’ll tell you how to do this a little later. There is another good reason to use a PC for these purposes - the router’s website is poorly optimized for mobile devices. In addition, not all models allow you to connect to WiFi without first configuring it.

For example, I’ll show you how I usually do this on my laptop with Windows 10. I connect to the device using a network cable, then open the browser and enter the address or http://192.168.1.1 and press the Enter button on the keyboard. Like this:

If there are no problems with the equipment and you entered the router address correctly, then an authorization page should appear, which will contain fields for entering your login and password.

But if a Google or Yandex search engine page suddenly appears, then in this case you must first make sure that you enter the router’s IP in the address bar, and not in the search bar, which is on the additional extension panels. If suddenly it still doesn’t work, try opening it through a different browser. Chrome is best for this.

We enter the user name in the login field - usually admin, in the password field, respectively, the password. If you don’t know them, you can also look at them on a sticker glued to the case. Here, however, we must take into account that now the Administrator password is changed when setting up the router for the first time. If you have forgotten it, then only resetting the settings with the “Reset” button will help.

If there are no problems and everything was done correctly, then your router’s personal account will open. This is not quite the correct name, but the essence is important to us - a personal account, a router website or a web interface. It is important to understand that this is the device setup interface:

Unfortunately, it is not always possible to reach this point, since before this various errors appear that prevent this. Yes, even if you managed to get to authorization, it is not at all a fact that the login and password “admin / admin” will do!!! Let's look at the most unpleasant situations!

The router's personal account does not open!

A site for setting up a modem or router, which many users prefer to call “Router Personal Account,” is correctly called Network device web interface. It is a set of HTML pages that contain all the necessary parameters that allow you to fully unlock the potential of the device and configure it to meet the requirements of the end network. As mentioned above, in order to access it, you need to enter the device’s IP in the browser - http://192.168.1.1 - and press the Enter key on the keyboard:

Attention! You do not need to enter www in the address. or domain zone (for example, .ru, .com, etc.) This is not a site on the Internet, it is a page on a local web server that runs on your modem or router. It’s easy enough to do as in the picture above.

Now let's talk about the most common difficulties that await an inexperienced user. The very first and most common problem when trying to get to the router via 192.168.1.1 (login to TP-Link, Zyxel Keenetic and ASUS) is the error “Cannot access the site.” This is not necessarily a device malfunction (although this can happen). The cause could be either a simple malfunction or incorrect settings.
What to do and how to fix this error?! Let's find out!

1. Errors when entering the address 192.168.1.1

According to statistics, more than 50% of difficulties with access to a modem or router are associated with an incorrectly entered IP address, which is not recognized by the operating system, or is recognized but not correctly. Firstly, many users mistakenly specify the wrong protocol - instead of regular HTTP, they register the secure version of HTTPS.

Here you need to keep in mind that http://192.168.1.1 and https://192.168.1.1 are completely different sites. And since the router’s web server only has an option available via the regular http protocol, only that will open. The secure option (via https://) will not be available and the error “Cannot access the site” will be displayed.
The exception is Wi-Fi routers UbiQuity AirRouter

The exact same result will be if you specify the usual www index in front of the IP, which is familiar to sites on the Internet - or even more interesting - specify the domain zone - or The fact is that the router’s web configurator runs on a web server that is running on the router itself. This is not a website on the Internet! This means pointing the browser there, indicating “www.” or ".com" is not needed! How not to specify the protocol http://- You just need to enter one address and press the Enter button on the keyboard. That's all!

2. Browser problems

This reason occurs, as a rule, on old computers and laptops, where Windows has been installed for quite a long time, the browser cache and cookies are completely littered with various garbage, a bunch of different extensions are installed, etc. In this case, you should not be surprised that you have problems accessing the router. There are several solutions.
First, try another browser: Opera, Firefox, Explorer or Edge.
Second, clean your Internet browser of junk. As an example, I will give the most popular browser - Google Chrome. Go to the application settings and find the “Personal Data” section:

Click the "Clear history" button. The following window will appear:

Select the period “All time”. Check the boxes for “Cookies”, as well as for “Images and other files in the cache”. Click the “Clear history” button. We are trying to get into the router. http://192.168.1.1 does not open?! Then you can try performing a full reset of Chrome settings. To do this, scroll the page of additional application parameters to the very end until the “Reset settings” button appears.

After this, all user settings of the program will be deleted, unnecessary extensions will be disabled. You will receive the browser as it was when you first installed it.

Incognito mode

The third option, which is suitable if you need to go to 192.168.1.1, but you do not want to reset your Internet browser settings, is to use the private “Incognito” mode, which is available in Chrome and other applications on its platform. To use it, open the main menu of the application:

In the menu, select “New window in incognito mode.”
After this, the browser will open another, new window in dark gray tones.

This mode does not use browser cache or cookies. Installed extensions will also not affect the website that opens. Enter the address http://192.168.1.1 and look at the result: you can log into the Keenetic, ASUS or TP-Link router.
If this does not help, then you need to move on to checking the operating system settings.

3. Disable the proxy

The reason that IP 192.168.1.1 of your modem or router is unavailable may also be active Proxy settings - a special server through which Internet access is organized. For example, you switched from one provider to another, or moved to another apartment and connected to a new provider. And the remaining old configuration will only get in the way.
To check this point, go to Windows 10 settings and select the “Network and Internet” section:

In the menu that opens, go to the Proxy subsection, find the “Use proxy server” switch and move it to the “Off” position.

We check the availability of the gadget again.

4. Disable antivirus and firewall

Do not forget that the source of problems with logging into the router can be overly active anti-virus software - an anti-virus firewall or firewall. Suspicious activity from an external network or an incorrect packet may cause the firewall to block the ability to enter the router via IP 192.168.1.1, or even the entire subnet or the connection itself.

To identify and eliminate this scenario, you should try to temporarily turn off the security system and try to log into the router. If this can be done after deactivating the antivirus, then you need to carefully study the packet filter rules and look for one that blocks access to the 192.168.1.0 network.

Setting up login 192.168.1.1 on Windows

If you configure your computer’s network card incorrectly, you will also not be able to log into the router via 192.168.1.1 admin/admin. Therefore, if the above methods did not help, you should start setting up the adapter, or rather, Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP\IPv4). To do this, open Windows 10 Settings and go to the “Network and Internet” section.

In the menu on the left, select the “Ethernet” subsection. Here on the right you need to click on the link “Configure adapter settings”. A list of network connections will open, where you need to select the one through which the modem or WiFi router is connected.

First, let’s just try to restart it - right-click on the adapter and select “Disable”, and then “Enable”.
If it doesn’t help, then move on to setting up the TCP/IP Protocol. To do this, right-click on the connection and select the “Properties” menu item.

In the window that appears, double-click with the left mouse button on the line “IP version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” to open the protocol properties window. If anything is written there, then first try resetting it all and setting automatic receipt of addresses.

To do this, check the “Obtain an IP address automatically” checkbox. The same goes for DNS. We check the entrance to your personal account 192.168.1.1. Not available? Then we try to register IP statically:

Check the “Use the following address” checkbox and enter the parameters:

IP address - 192.168.1.2 Subnet mask - 255.255.255.0 Default gateway - 192.168.1.1 Preferred DNS server - 192.168.1.1

Click on the “OK” button. If Windows 10 starts complaining that an IP address conflict has been detected on the network, open the protocol settings again and change the IP to another one in the same subnet 192.168.1.0-254. I usually put it somewhere at the end - 192.168.1.250.

Resetting the TCP/IP protocol

In cases where nothing helps and you still can’t log into your router’s personal account, you can try resetting the TCP/IP protocol parameters in Windows 10. First, let’s reset the parameters of all the main Windows network protocols to eliminate possible problems. This is done via the command line. Right-click on the Start button and select “Command Prompt (Administrator)” from the context menu that appears:

After the protocol parameters are reset to their initial state, you can try logging in to 192.168.1.1 admin again.

The password and login admin on 192.168.1.1 do not work

Let's consider another “side of the coin”, namely, when the router’s personal account itself is accessible, but when you try to enter the login admin and password admin on 192.168.1.1, the device complains about incorrect data (Bad login, Wrong password, etc.) How be in this case?
First, look again at what is indicated on the sticker on the router, in the same place where the IP address is indicated - whether the login and password admin / admin are indicated there accurately. If yes, then either the login password was changed earlier and now, since you don’t know it, all that remains is to do a complete reset of the router using the method I showed just above - through the Reset button. If nothing is written there, then now I will give a small cheat sheet on logins and passwords that are used on the router:

Resetting the router to factory settings

If the error “Cannot access the site” appears again, then you should try resetting the router to factory settings.

For these purposes, each modem, router or GPON ONT router has a special “Reset” button located on the back of the case. To press it, you need to use a paper clip, a toothpick or a ballpoint pen. With the device turned on, press the button and hold it pressed for 10-15 seconds. After that, we wait a couple more minutes until it reboots and try to log into the web configurator again.

The more people use broadband Internet access, the more often the question arises - how to access the Wi-Fi router settings?! Many people even know that IP is used to enter the router settings 192.168.1.1 , or less often - . And yet, with access to the web configurator, some incomprehensible stories constantly arise, forcing the user to surf the Internet in search of an answer - how to log in to 192.168.1.1 to configure the router. This instruction will fully answer all your questions and will help you understand all the basic intricacies associated with accessing the configuration parameters of a wireless router.

What we're going to talk? To begin with, I will conduct a small educational program and tell you briefly what these addresses 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1 are, why they are needed on the home network, where they need to be entered to go to the page with the router settings and what to do if this can't do it?!

Most often, such questions are of interest to those who have just connected to the Internet, bought a Wi-Fi router for this, and then don’t know what to do with all this stuff! The way modern network devices are designed is that before you put it on the network, you need to change the basic configuration parameters to those recommended by the provider to which you are connected. You will also have to open the router settings if the Internet stops working due to the settings being lost, or when you need to change the WiFi password or some other options. Moreover, no matter what router you use - Asus, Zyxel Keenetic, Tp-Link, D-Link, NetGear, Trendnet, Tenda, Linksys or something else - the process of logging into the router’s web interface via IP address 192.168.1.1 (or any other) is almost the same everywhere and is no different!

IP 192.168.1.1 - what is this address and how to use it

Any modern Internet access device, be it an ADSL modem, WiFi router or xPON optical terminal, is a whole mini-computer! It has its own processor and RAM, and is controlled by a special operating system. Therefore, you should not be surprised by such an abundance of various settings and functions that modern routers are endowed with. Two networks are usually connected to this mini-computer:

  1. WAN or Wide Area Network- This is an external network that comes with the provider's cable.
  2. LAN or Local Area Network- this is your home network, which will include a computer, laptop, phones, tablets and Smart TV.

So 192.168.1.1 is the IP address of the router on the local network, using which you can enter its settings. The same IP is the gateway for the home network.

Recently, manufacturers have begun to assign domain names on the local network to ordinary home Wi-Fi routers. The most striking examples:

Asus - asusrouter.com TP-Link - tpinklogin.net, tplinkwifi.net or tplinkmodem.net Zyxel Keenetic - my.keenetic.net NetGear - routerlogin.net Rostelecom routers - http://rt

That is, in the address bar of your web browser, instead of the IP address 192.168.1.1, you need to enter a symbolic name and press the “Enter” button.

How to find out the IP address of a WiFi router

As I said above, to organize a home network and access management, each router has its own local IP address, through which it will be accessible to all clients. It will also be indicated as a gateway for all gadgets connected to it. How to find out the router address? Yes, very simple. We take it in our hands and turn it over. As an example, I’ll show you a sticker on the Netis DL4320 modem:

On the back of the case there will be a sticker on which all the basic information about the network device is written - manufacturer, model, serial number. Also, in a separate area, the IP address of the router will be registered - 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1 or some other. It is this set of numbers that will need to be entered in the address bar of the browser.

If instead of IP a symbolic address is registered, then you will have to enter it. Example - TP-Link TL-MR4320 WiFi router:

By the way, the login and password for logging into the router via 192.168.1.1 are written there. Typically this is the username − admin and password - admin.

If there is suddenly no sticker on the device, then use the instructions from the manufacturer.

How to enter 192.168.1.1 into the router settings

Let's take a step-by-step look at how to properly connect and log into the router settings via 192.168.1.1 for beginners!

Step 1. We start with the fact that you first need to correctly connect your computer or laptop to it, using which we will further configure the router:

It is best to do this through the supplied LAN cable. You can see the connection diagram in the figure. That is, we connect one end of it to the network card of a PC or laptop, and plug the other end into the LAN port on the router. In general, you can log in to 192.168.1.1 via WiFi, but to do this you either need to know the password for its Wi-Fi, or be able to click on . on the router, then connect within two minutes.

As soon as you connect to a network device, the Windows operating system can automatically set the connection status to “Restricted” or “No Internet access”. There is no need to be scared - this is normal. Since the device is not configured, it does not have access to the global web! This does not affect access to the web configurator!

Step 2. Launch the web browser. You can use absolutely any browser, but I would still recommend using either Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Alternatively, Opera will do. But with Firefox, sometimes there are problems with the layout and operation of interactive elements,

Step 3. In the address bar where you usually write the website address, type the router’s IP address - http://192.168.1.1(or http://192.168.0.1 depending on what is indicated on its sticker). Press the “Enter” button. If everything is configured correctly and there are no problems, a window should appear with fields for entering your login and password, as in the picture above. Enter your login information to open the web interface. Typically used to log in to 192.168.1.1, login admin, password admin. Some D-Link models may not prompt you for a password. On Tenda routers, you may not be prompted for a username and password at all!
